The Jacaranda

Wreck at the Qolora Mouth

The Jacaranda was a Greek coaster of about 2,000 tons which ran aground in good weather at the Qolora Mouth close to Seagulls on 18 September 1971.

It had a crew of 15, and the captain's wife was also aboard. Nobody was injured.

It was believed that the vessel suffered engine trouble. Captain Kokkios said that the Jacaranda was empty at the time and therefore riding high in the water. It was caught by strong winds. Although they dropped two anchors, these dragged on the sandy bottom and the ship went onto the rocks.
